A very tasty potato galette

Again, hola amigos and amigas! 🙂

Yes, I’m a girl who loves to eat, and a girl who also loves to cook. I discovered this dish while looking at Facebook videos.  Facebook is a treasure trove where food videos are concerned, I kid you not.

This tasty dish is called a potato galette and oh my, it is fancy. According to the Martha Stewart website, the potato galette is a staple dish in the French countryside. Although she made her galette differently, I’m sure her variation is just as good. I got this recipe from Cooking with Shereen. You can see more of her toothsome treats here and here.

Since I don’t have a lot of the ingredients (apart from the coarsely grated potato), I decided to put my own spin on it.

To make this tasty dish, you’ll need:

One large potato, grated.

a pinch of salt

a pinch of pepper (in this recipe, I used powdered chilli–we love spicy food, yes we do! haha)

1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, also coarsely grated

Directions:

  1. Grate potato using a coarse grater (the one with slightly larger holes)
  2. Once the potato is grated, drain out excess moisture (using a strainer is fine).
  3. Bring out the skillet, and pour three tablespoon’s worth of oil, and turn on the flame to medium.
  4. When the oil has warmed up, pat the first half of the grated potato on the skillet, sprinkle salt and pepper, and grated cheese. Then pat in the second half of the grated potato. Again, sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper on top.
  5. Wait for the sides to turn golden brown, then flip. I usually time it to one to two minutes before I flip the potato on the other side. After flipping, add a little more oil to make sure the galette doesn’t burn or stick to the pan. The galette should like this after you get it out of the pan.

You can eat it on its own. But as I had a little leftover cheesy tuna sauce, I heated it up and ladled it on the galette (please see above). Delish! 🙂
