My Tuesday playtime: A trial and error account of prettifying myself for absolutely no reason at all

Happy Friday, everyone!

Hope you are well and safe wherever you are.

A few days ago, I promised myself a treat after handing in the first part of my coursework. No, it has nothing to do with food, but a lot to do with making my soul happy by dressing up and putting on makeup. It’s been a long time since I put on work clothes and makeup on my face.

It’s been two months already. I missed prettifying myself and getting dressed for work!  So, a little playtime was in order. I looked at my wardrobe a few days ago and checked if there’s anything in it that I haven’t worn. Or if there’s an outfit I haven’t tried doing. So here I am, wearing black, with a pop of nude and red here and there.

My top was repurposed from an old dress that I rarely used. Rather than have it go to waste, I went to the nearest seamstress and made the dress into two separate clothes. You can find a similar stretchable black scoop top here, here, here, and here.

When I saw the scarf at H&M, I knew it was love at first sight. Why? Because I love anything that’s red, or at least with a touch of red. I had to have it. I also bought my mum the exact same scarf for Christmas. She hasn’t used hers yet, though.

In case my scarf isn’t in H&M’s shelves anymore, you might like this. You can find a better bargain in the generic department stores, or even in thrift stores!

For the belt, I used a black velvet skinny scarf I got from H&M. However, upon checking, I found that it’s now sold out. You can find something similar here on Etsy.

You can either wear a skirt or wide-legged pants but for this outfit, I chose to wear a skirt. Mine was a generic, locally branded skirt you can find in the department store (I bought it in one of the SM Malls near me–unfortunately the brand on the tag faded out). You can find something similar here or here. Luckily for all of us, a black A-line skirt is easy to find anywhere.

I don’t wear high-heeled shoes as often as I used to. When I started working full-time, I would walk around the office compound and the buildings are very far from each other. Wearing high heeled shoes became impractical. But I still wear them on special occasions. I chose a nude shade for this outfit because it makes my legs look longer (ha).

If you’re based in the Philippines, Chelsea might be a familiar brand to you. Other well-loved Filipino shoe brands are Janylin and Figlia.

Oh my goodness, makeup. Don’t get me started about how I miss putting on makeup. I thought that with months of having no reason to put on makeup, I would forget how to do it. I shouldn’t have worried, because I still know how to put on makeup.

Products I used: Face: Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser Primer; L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Nude Sunshine (N3.5); Coty Airspun Powder; The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain in Red Pomegranate (003); Eyes: Ever Bilena Advance Uncover Neutral Palette, Maybelline Hypersharp Liner; Lips: The Body Shop Born Lippy in Strawberry; The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain in Red Pomegranate (003), Mac lipstick in Russian Red; Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink in Pioneer (20), and Sunnies Fluffmatte lipstick in Hot Sauce and Major.

What else can complete the look? A pair of dark glasses. I got this pair of sunglasses from Sunnies Studios, a local eyewear company. The style is called Yorke, but sadly, I think it’s no longer in circulation! A similar pair, the Monterey, can still be bought from their website.

This ends my first style post! I have to be honest that I was a bit nervous about posting it, but taking pictures for this post was so much fun! Till next time, then!
